         • While suppleness is difficult to obtain even for advanced horses, we should be seeking it even on the very first ride.  It is the fifth element of training explained in the course
Training Performance Horses.

        • Suppleness is not looseness, and it is not flexibility.  When achieved, it indicates an advanced stage of training for the "unrestricted" horse.

        • A horse is said to be "unrestricted" if he accepts his rider without tightening his back muscles and then willingly begins a well-time trot without rein contact,  relaxed body and back muscles, a pleasant expression and a natural swinging rhythm of the tail.
